Exam 1 Pharmacology
Absorption
- the movement of a drug from its site of administration into the blood. The rate of
absorption determines how soon effects will begin. The amount of absorption helps
determine how intense effects will be.
Distribution
- drug movement from the blood to the interstitial space of tissues and from there into
cells.
Determined by three major factors: blood flow to tissues, the ability of a drug to exit the
vascular system, and, to a lesser extent, the ability of a drug to enter cells
Metabolism
- the chemical alteration of drug structure.
(Most drug metabolism takes place in the liver)
