COMMENTARY

Parts (a) and (b)(i) are correct.

In part (b)(ii) there is a slight error, indicated by a cross on the script. However, the student recovered this

error by writing the following line correctly, so only one mark is dropped.

In part (b)(iii) the discriminant is equated to zero because the line is a tangent to the curve. Although this is

not explicitly stated, this is acceptable in this case because students are not required to prove a result.
