COMPARISON OF MEDICAL MODEL OF HEALTH VS. THE SOCIAL HEALTH MODEL.

 Medical Model:

This model is the most main system of medical knowledge within the

western world today, it defines health as the absence of disease and informs the

most powerful and influential discourse of health.

The main attention of this model is to immediately label an individual with a

medical condition rather than focusing on other factors around them. According

to (Reach, 2016) “The medical model of health is the health care type associated

with majority of health care providers. Th treatment under this particular model

emphasizes on the clinical diagnoses and the related medical interventions”. For

example, a cancer patient with a positive result under this model professional

would be focusing on the treating the cancer and finding ways to make the

patient more comfortable and pain free.

Social Model:

The social model of health is a model that focuses on the patients, the

environment, economic standings, and the people they have in their lives, and

how they can be of a great support. According to (Byers &Van, 2010) “Social
