3. Prostate Cancer signs and symptoms
None in early stages
Symptoms initially reported are similar to BPH
LATE symptom - gross hematuria
Metastatic disease may cause lumbosacral symptoms

Monitor: for hemorrhage, infection, drain output, site, Urine output

6. Testicular cancer Nursing care and education
High risk for infertility
Discuss sensitively
Discuss early
Consider cryopreservation of sperm
7. Sexually transmitted infections nursing care and education
•Education

•Completing treatment plan - complete meds and follow up

•Don't spread - no sex until infection clear / antibiotics done - usually at least 7 days

STI are sexually transmitted - so vaginal, anal, or oral sex must occur for almost all (or
have non-penetrating sexual activity)
9. Syphilis signs and symptoms
•Primary syphilis - sore(s) at the original site of the infection. Sores are usually firm,
round, and painless. 10-90 days after inoculation
•Secondary syphilis - systemic infection.
•Skin rash, swollen lymph nodes, fever, headache, body aches - general flu-like
symptoms. Can have cutaneous lesion or moist weeping papules. Can have mucous
patches. Can be mild and unnoticed.
•Latent syphilis (part of secondary syphilis) - the immune system is able to suppress
the infection - asymptomatic again
•Tertiary syphilis -
•SEVERE medical problems that can affect the heart, brain, or other organs
•1-20 years after initial infection
•Less common due to antibiotics
10. Syphilis Care treatment
Antibiotics - Benzathine penicillin G (doxycycline or tetracycline in penicillin allergy)
