What are drug interactions with verapamil?
- Digoxin (can increase the levels in the blood- potentially exposing patient to
toxicity)
Beta Blockers (can decrease the blood pressure)
What is the mechanism of action for Digoxin?
- increases myocardial contractile force (hearts ability to squeeze- will increase
it), alters electrical activity of the heart (decreases rate of electrical conduction
and prolongs refractory period- decreases HR and slows the heart), affects
neuro-hormonal systems.
What do we treat with the use of digoxin?
- adjunct to heart failure, Afib
What are important side effects with digoxin use?
- cardiac dysrhythmias, hyper/hypokalemia, anorexia, N, V, fatigue
What are the early s/s of digoxin toxicity?
- anorexia, N, V, ABD pain, confusion
What are the late s/s of digoxin toxicity?
- low HR, vision changes- halos, blue green vision change

- 0.5-2.0 ng/mL
